Hotel, resort in Cebu to construct more rooms to house tourists

CEBU will have 163 additional rooms to accommodate the projected increase in tourists arrivals.

This, as Plantation Bay Resort and Spa completes work on three additional rooms next month and Sarrosa International Hotel implements its plan to build 160 new rooms.

Plantation Bay Resort and Spa public relations associate Dianne Gandionco told Sun.Star Cebu in a phone interview that the resort’s Ozonawa Spa Village is expected to be completed next month. The facility will add three rooms to Plantation’s existing 247 rooms.

A high ranking official of Sarrosa International Hotel and International Suites who asked for anonymity said the company is planning to add 160 rooms to the existing 112 in a year or two.

Department of Tourism (DOT) 7 Director Patria Aurora Roa said more foreign visitors are expected to come to the country and Cebu.

Among these foreign visitors, Roa said would be 10,000 Chinese who are expected to come to Cebu in the next seven months.

She said this future development would benefit local hotels, resorts, restaurants and other stakeholders in the tourism sector. She added that there would be enough rooms in Cebu to accommodate the expected number of visitors.

Roa said during the inaugural flight of the China Southern Airlines, which brought 100 Chinese in Cebu last July 29, that other foreigners who are interested in visiting the province include those from Japan and countries in Europe, North America, Korea, Oceania and Asia Pacific.

Consul General for Shanghai Jesus Yabes said, however, said the country lacks accommodation and other tourism facilities.

This is the reason that the Philippines is not among the favorite destinations of many Chinese who prefer Singapore, Thailand, Macau, Hong Kong, Japan, Vietnam, Korea, Malaysia and the United States. (TEP)
