Saturday, August 04, 2007 ABS-CBN pledges great coverage of Philippines v. Mexico match-ups

Television giant ABS-CBN will provide a comprehensive coverage of the Boxing World Cup.
In its presentation and dinner held Thursday evening at the Marco Polo Hotel Grand Ballroom, ABS-CBN officials pledged a comprehensive coverage of the boxing spectacle from the Arco Arena in Sacramento, California, USA.
From the fight primers to the replays, ABS-CBN will bring the Mexico vs. The Philippines rivalry to Filipino homes.
The main fights will be aired on a delayed basis on Aug. 12 over free TV. ABS-CBN also prepared fight specials that will be seen in Sports Unlimited Presents, dubbed Pinoy Contenders, today. The channel will also be airing the Pinoy Boxers Highlight on Aug. 10 in the Kapamilya Cinema timeslot and the BWC Primers on Aug 11.
Over at ANC, the Pinoy Contenders will be aired on Aug. 5 from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.; the Hardball Primer on Aug. 8 from 10:30 to 11 p.m. and the BWC Primer on Aug. 12 from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Studio 23, which will also air the replay of the card on Aug. 23, will also air the Pinoy Contenders on Aug.6 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Aside from the primers, the station will also air thematic schemes in almost all its public affairs and variety show programs to drum up awareness of the card.
Thematic spots will be aired over Umagang Kay Ganda, Wowowee (from Monday to Friday), Bandila, Noypi/Correspondents/Soco.
The Boxing World Cup is expected to be one of the defining moments of Filipino boxing talents as seven Pinoy warriors face their Mexican counterparts for different titles.
The Philippine team is comprised by Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista, Gerry Peñalosa, Z “The Dream” Gorres, Bert Batawang, AJ Banal, Michael Domingo and Diosdado Gabi.
Their Mexican counters are Daniel Ponce De Leon for Bautista (WBO Super-bantamweight championship), Johnny Gonzales for Peñalosa (WBO Bantamweight championship), Gerson Guerrero for Gorres (IBF superflyweight title eliminator), Gerardo Verde against Batawang (IBF jr. flyweight title eliminator), Eric Ortiz for Banal, Miguel Roman for Domingo and Angel Beranza vs. Gabi.
The country that will have the most number of wins will win the World Cup.
Mexico defeated Thailand 5-1 during the initial competition held in October 2005. (RCM)
