Tuesday, August 07, 2007 LGU support helps boost business sector
GOOD governance will help boost businesses in a locality, one of the organizers of the Mandaue Business Month (MBM) 2007 said.
Emma Ramas, MBM ’07 business forum committee chairperson, told Sun.Star Cebu that the government has a big responsibility in developing businesses.
Furthermore, Ramas said the government should lay down policies that promote economic growth in a locality.
This is the reason why the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. partnered with the Mandaue City Government in coming up with economic activities for the MBM.
The project proponents see the important role of local government officials in inspiring, supporting and helping the business sector.
Low tide
“It’s just like the saying; when you start working on the (low) tide, when it rises up, all the boats, big or small will also rise up,” Ramas said.
Industries, especially small and medium enterprises, need the govern-ment’s support to grow.
Ramas said the success of industries in a city reflects the good leadership skills of its local government leaders.
She said this is the “opportune time” to gather local government officials in a forum to discuss policies and programs for the business sector since they have just started their new terms of office.
Multi-awarded
To emphasize on the role of local officials, the forum organizers have invited a multi-awarded local official to talk about what he has done for his constituents.
“Naga City’s Jessie M. Robredo, an international and national awardee for good governance, is one of the key speakers in the forum who will talk about the ways on how he’s able to get this recognition,” Ramas said.
The business forum on Aug. 9, one of MBM’s highlighted activities, will be held at the Cebu International Convention Center. (TEP)
