Tuesday, August 07, 2007 Provincial jail inmates to get P1T each for show
FOR bringing Cebu to the world, all of the more than 1,600 inmates at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) will get P1,000 each as anniversary bonus.
This is the first time that the inmates will get a share of the bonuses that are usually meted out to Capitol employees every Founding Anniversary celebration.
Yesterday marked the 438th Founding Anniversary of the Province and included in the program was the performance of the 26 CPDRC inmates with their world-famous dance to the tune of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”
The inmates were brought to Capitol in two vans with one-on-one security and with court order.
They performed on the grounds in front of the Capitol and immediately returned to their vans for their trip back to the jail right after they delighted the audience.
Deposited
The bonus of the inmates will be deposited in their account with the CFI Multi-purpose Cooperative.
The dancing inmates gained international attention when Capitol consultant Byron Garcia uploaded their video on the Internet.
Millions have viewed the video over YouTube.
Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia said CPDRC has been transformed from the worst facility of the Province to a source of pride for Cebu and the country.
The almost 2,000 employees of the Provincial Government will also receive an across-the-board bonus of P5,000.
Garcia also announced yesterday the top five departments in terms of performance.
The best performer is the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) headed by Cristina Giango and the second is the Provincial Social Welfare and Development (PSWD) Office under Marivic Garces.
The two offices have been consistent top performers for two years now.
This means that the employees of the IPHO will get another P5,000 on top of their across-the-board bonus, while PSWD employees will get P4,000.
In the third slot is the Provincial Engineering with an additional P3,000 for the employees, fourth is the administrator’s office (additional P2,000) and in fifth place is the treasurer’s office (additional P1,000).
But Garcia, in her speech, reminded employees of her thrust to bring Cebu into the international arena so they must conform to her standards.
“Shape up or ship out,” she told them, adding that Capitol has no room for rotten apples.
She cited the incident where some employees stole documents that were later used in filing charges against her and other Capitol employees before the anti-graft office and also in attacking her over a radio station. (MBG)
