Cebuano falls
NESTOR Longcayana almost bowled a perfect game in the seventh SM Cup Bowling Tournament monthly final last weekend at the SM Bowling Center.
The tournament was put to a halt to acknowledge Longcayana during the sixth game when he scored eight straight strikes.
However, he missed and lost the chance to be the very first Cebuano to claim the P5-million dangled for anyone striking the perfect game on the 9th frame.
He scored 278 on that game, just a shade under the 300 perfect game mark.
In the end, Longcayana also lost the top prize, bowing to lady kegler Elizabeth Ngo, who finished with 1,991 pinfalls. Cynthia Kua was second place with 1,961 pins. Longcayana was at third with 1,915 pinfalls.
Longcayana’s sixth game output still merited him a special award as the highest single scratch, while ladies’ award went to Kua, who had 259 pinfalls.
The top ten finishers are Jake Yap, who actually dominated the first six games, Inday De Gracia, defending national champion John Gasataya, Alex Damole, who was last month’s winner, Nestor Ponteres, Boy Gacho and Art Dacumos.
Ngo pocketed P12,000, while Kua and Longcayana took P6,000 and P4,000.
All 25 qualifiers for this month went home with Accel bowling t-shirts and gym bags. Special awardees received Nestle and Milo gift packs. (MCB)
