Face or body makeover without surgery
By Jenara Regis Newman

TECHNOLOGY has come to the rescue of those who want to have a facelift or a tummy tuck, or whatever else but who are afraid of surgery: there are machines now that make this possible without going under the knife. And it can be done during lunch break, so says Dr. Cecilia R. Bernad.

At her CRB Multi-Specialty Clinic in Perpetual Succour Hospital, she has two machines called Harmony and Accent.

Accent is the machine that gives a non-surgical facelift and body reshaping or thermoshape through the use of heat (laser).

There is no downtime in these procedures, and no downside except for the fact that heat is being applied on one’s body or face and therefore, there is some mild discomfort. One goes out of the clinic without a wound or anything that would show what one has been through, except that one’s body or face has been “tightened” and somehow transformed, very subtly.

The effect is more noticeable after three days and even more noticeable after two to three weeks, and the effect will stay even after a year. But, to be more transformed and be younger looking and/or much slimmer, Dr. Bernad says the procedure should be done about four times and after that, every four or six months.

Accent can do a lot of other functions, like permanent treatment for axillary sweating, iontophoresis (for acne and skin pigmentation), laser tattoo removal, laser pigmentation trident, carbossytherapy for stretch marks, and underarm and groin whitening.

Harmony completes the treatment of the face through fractional resurfacing, the effect of which will be better after two or three weeks, or after mild exfoliation.

After this treatment, there is a mild tingling sensation which lasts for about a day.

Dr. Bernad says the cost of these procedures is about the same as actual plastic surgery or tummy tuck. The advantage is that there is no invasive surgery required and no possible disastrous aftermath. One goes on with life as usual, except that one looks younger and/or slimmer.

Dr. Bernad is a diplomate in the Philippine Academy of Clinical and Cosmetic Surgery. She has three other clinics:

Dermhaven in Raintree Mall, in the Banilad Town Center, and in Tabunok.

She is also one of three doctors at the Perpetual Succour Skin Laser Care.

And yes, she is the walking advertisements of what Accent and Harmony can do!
