Firm invests in skills training for workers

TO ensure that its employees adhere to global competitiveness, NEC Telecom Software Philippines (NSP) has been investing on skills upgrade training for its work force.

“We want to equip our people with the right skills that is why the company spends for their training and development,” said Gina Alonzo, NSP senior manager for human resources and general affairs.

According to a press statement sent to Sun.Star Cebu, 15 NSP trainers and managers were sent to a series of trainings on advance project management, conducted by the Project Management Institute of the Philippines (PMI) since the middle of last year.

Upon completion, the course will prepare the employees to take the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification examination that will lead to PMP Accreditation, Alonzo said in the statement.

To obtain PMP certification, candidates must satisfy all educational and experiential requirements established by PMI and must demonstrate an acceptable and valid level of understanding and knowledge of project management that is tested by the PMP certification exam, the press statement read.

Commitment

Those who have been granted PMP credentials must demonstrate professional commitment to the field of project management by satisfying PMI’s continuing certification requirements program, said Alonzo.

PMI is a leading membership association for the project management profession. It is engaged in advocacy for setting professional standards, conducting research and providing access to information and resources.

It has more than 240,000 members in over 160 countries.

“The company will continue to invest in further developing its people because it is with them that we will be able to achieve our goals, mission and vision and the organization’s success,” Alonzo said.

She said skills upgrade, especially in the managerial level, will help maintain the company’s competitive edge in meeting the competency requirement of its workers.

Earlier, Cebu Educational Development Foundation for Information Technology senior adviser Fred Kintanar urged private companies to further enhance skills improvement programs to sustain the growing demand worldwide for quality information technology professionals.

NSP, a subsidiary of NEC Corp., is a world-class software engineering company located at the Asiatown IT Park in Cebu City. (MMM)
