THE University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJR) has invested about P700 million to give commerce students true-to-life lessons.
The investment to build the Business Resource Center (BRC) is meant to “enhance the entrepreneurial spirit” of students “by implementing real business,” said Dr. Edgar Detoya, dean of the USJR College of Commerce and Graduate School of Business Management and Administration.
USJR also forged partnerships with the Commission on Higher Education (Ched) and the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) Inc., among others, to help provide business and accounting students ample practical experience.
Detoya said students of business-related courses can practice business transactions inside the BRC. The BRC will also provide venue for students to practice audit procedures.
“(We’re) not contented with just teaching the students, (we) encourage them to implement it,” Detoya said during the blessing of the BRC last Wednesday.
USJR public and media relations consultant Mila Espina, who is also CCCI chair of tourism, said the BRC provides students “hands-on immersion” in business processes and transactions.
CCCI president Francis Monera and Ched 7 Director Tina Barbas expressed support to the school’s efforts to further develop the business environment in Cebu and the students’ capabilities.
USJR president Fr. Anthony Morillo, OAR, said the university has realized that it is “critical to link with the industry.” (TEP)
