Saturday, August 11, 2007 Cebu can lure more investors without garbage, squatters
TO lure more foreign investments, Cebu needs to eliminate peace and order problems, garbage and squatters.
Cebu Investments Promotion Center managing director Joel Mari Yu said Cebu also needs to address issues that could turn off potential investors such as bureaucracy and labor costs.
Cebu, though, have more foreign direct investments compared to its neighbors in Visayas, he said during the Mandaue Business Month 2007 Business Forum held at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) last Thursday.
Yu also raised the need for better infrastructure like roads and drainage, sufficient power and efficient transportation systems, among others.
He said Cebu has to face the challenge of managing consequences of growth without jeopardizing further development.
To be able to do this, he said appropriate policies are needed and should not be dependent on whoever is in power.
Cebu Business Club president Dondi Joseph, on the other hand, said bad governance has negative effects on businesses. TEP)
