Sabah official to guest in SEF
DATUK Karim Haji Bujang, deputy minister of Sabah’s Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment, will be a guest speaker at the 4th Sun. Star Economic Forum slated for Aug. 23 at Marco Polo Plaza Cebu.
The deputy minister will share the success story of tourism in the Malaysian state, which saw a fivefold increase in its visitor numbers from 1998 to 2006.
Known as “Land of the Sacred Mountain,” Sabah hosts a heterogeneous population (30 ethnic races), local festivals, city and wellness destinations, and natural wonders, most famous of which are Mount Kinabalu, the highest mountain in Southeast Asia, and Kinabalu Park, Malaysia’s first World Heritage Site.
From 2002 to 2006 alone, Sabah saw a near doubling of its visitor arrivals to 2.09 million from 1.11 million.
The Sun.Star Economic Forum (SEF) is an annual presentation and discussion of economic issues and business opportunities in Cebu. The theme for this year’s SEF is “Cebu Tourism: Moving Forward.”
The Sabah deputy minister joins a list of high-profile speakers for the forum. |
