Friday, August 17, 2007 USC honors outstanding grads
THE University of San Carlos (USC) will recognize the achievements of its graduates in the fields of medicine, aeronautics, architecture, entrepreneurship, environmental protection and community service, among others.
In this year’s search for oustanding alumni, the awardees are Arlene Pasaol Donaire for environmental advocacy, Arnulfo Ramos for community service, Dr. Vermén M. Verallo-Rowell for medicine-dermatology, Engr. Ernesto R. Codina for aeronautics and space flight engineering, Judge Marilyn L. Yap for law and justice, Philip N. Tan for entrepreneurship, Hon. Prudenciana C. Cruz for library science and Architect Socorro B. Atega for landscape architecture.
The awardees will be honored during the USC grand alumni homecoming and testimonial dinner for the Most Outstanding Alumni Awardees of 2007.
The school will gather graduates from the University of San Carlos Girl’s High and Boy’s High Schools and the colleges.
The homecoming will be held at the CAFA building, USC-Talamban campus.
Several of Cebu’s highly influential people are Carolinians, like John Gokongwei who was awarded in 1970 for the field of industry, Atty. Augusto Go who was awarded in 1977 for the field of education and placed in the Hall of Fame in 2000.
Influential
The list also includes Emilio Osmeña in 1990, Jack Sy Gaisano for business in 2000, Alexander S. Gaisano in 2001 for corporate management, Julie Gandionco in 2002 for franchising, Engr. Pericles Dakay for construction engineering in 2003 and Virginia Uy Gaisano, to name a few.
The awardees possess characteristics consistent with the ideals of USC and have outstanding leadership and excellence in their respective fields of endeavor as indicated by positions of prominence in the profession, awards earned in local, regional, national and/or international levels, production of notable works, researches, experiments, active membership in civic organizations or charitable institutions, and participation in projects beneficial to backward communities.
Venues
The 53nd Carolinians grand alumni homecoming will be on Aug. 19 while the testimonial evening for the Most Outstanding Alumni will be on Aug. 18 at the Marcelo B. Fernan Press Center in Sudlon, Lahug, Cebu City.
Alumni members include pre-school, elementary, high school and college graduates of USC.
Raffles and a fellowship will be held after the awarding.
Entertainment will be provided by the Renaissance Band.
