Pinoys trample Koreans in early rounds
THERE is a Filipino invasion of Korea.
Korean tennis, that is as Junior Filipino netters swept all of their early assignments in commanding fashions in the Hoengseong Korea International Junior Tennis Championship 2007 at the Sunkang Tennis Court in Korea yesterday.
Cebuanos Jacob Lagman and Vince Mark Tabotabo won their singles and doubles matches to mark a positive start for the Pinoys.
Doubles
Lagman of St. Benedict Childhood Learning Center won his first match against Han Seong, 8-1, to move to the next round of the Boys 12-Under division.
On the other hand, Tabotabo, who is already based in Manila on a tennis scholarship, blanked Young Sang, 8-0 in the 10-Under.
In the doubles competition, Lagman paired with Jurence Mendoza to defeat Kong Minchu and Lee Jeong, 6-4.
Tabotabo and Eric Olivarez defeated Hing Seung and Jeong Hoon, 6-1, in their doubles match in their age group.
Olivarez won his singles match in the Boys 10, 8-3, over Lee Kang Min, while Mendoza won over Nam Seung Hyeon, 8-5, in the Boys 12.
In the distaff side, Eric Lagura won over Kim Jae Hae, 8-1, while Maika Tampoco defeated Jo Ah Young, 8-2.
Both girls competed in the Girls 12 division.
They played together in the doubles event, where they defeated Lim Eung Jeong and Park Ji Eun, 6-4, in the first round.
In the second round, Lagura and Tampoco defeated Yoo Pa and Lee Su Bin, 6-3. (MCB)
