Saturday, August 18, 2007 Labiogo falls to Cesa in a six-round upset
ALBERT “The Spider” Cesa pulled a stunning upset over the highly favored Jomar Labiogo in their six-round contest in the main event of the Alcoy Boxing Showdown presented by RWS International and Mayor Nick de los Santos at the Alcoy Multi-Purpose Gym Thursday night.
Cesa, who ended his nearly three years of retirement, dropped a barrage of punches that put all of Labiogo’s chances to the drain for a split decision win.
After losing two rounds, Cesa bounced back from the third round and highlighted his return by putting Labiogo on his knees on the fourth round for a 58-56; 58-55 tallies while the third judge gave Labiogo a 59-56 win.
Cesa fought Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista in 2004, before he decided to rest. He now finds a home at the Omega Boxing Club owned by Junpi Castillo.
John Reil Casimero, on the other hand, scored the lone stoppage of the card after Andrew Pal decided to quit at at the start of the second round.
Casimero proved to be a better skilled fighter between the two as he pummeled Pal with a flurry of blows to the body and head at the opening bell to force his opponent to quit.
Roemart Sentillas of Mandaue City scored his second win as a pro following a unanimous decision over Vergelio Silvano. Elbert Gualdario also scored a unanimous decision win over Christopher Antenero and Ed Earl Orellano defeated Jeffrey Pulvera also by unanimous decision.
In the amateur bouts, Martin Rodrigo defeated Ayul Mangapis, Cleaford Geslaga decisions Anthony Sabalde, Gerson Mercado scored a Referee Stop Contest-Outclass over Robenson Buenaventura at 1:51 of the first round, Ryan Tampus beat Mark Selloria, Jason Manigo outpointed Jerome Aguirre, Rhel Mandate blanked Mamolan Hemenegildo and Elf Getgano scored an RSC-O over Rey Garcia at the one-minute mark of the second round.
