Sunday, August 19, 2007 Security guard from Bohol gave up to police
AFRAID of being implicated in the P2.7-million heist of a Metrobank pick-up teller, a man who hails from San Miguel, Bohol, gave himself up to police last Friday night.
Alvin Camacho, a security guard here in Cebu, sought the assistance of radio broadcaster-columnist Lloyd Suarez during his surrender.
Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Bureau (CIIB) Chief George Ylanan fetched Camacho past 9 p.m. and brought him to the Cebu City Police Office at the Camp Sotero Cabahug for questioning.
Ylanan, in an interview with Sun.Star Cebu, said Camacho was released yesterday because they have no basis to hold him.
Camacho reportedly wanted to clear his name after receiving information that police were looking for him.
Ylanan, however, clarified that Camacho was not identified as among the five perpetrators in last Monday’s robbery of La Nueva Supermart that left two security guards injured.
Camacho was not also considered a suspect, Ylanan said.
Complaints for robbery with double homicide were filed last Friday against Casimero “Meloy” Garcia, the alleged leader of the Bohol Robbery Group; Cresencio “Bruts” Reguya; former La Nueva Supermart security guard Danilo Flores; and two John Does. They were tagged as the armed men who robbed pick-up teller Grace Maglangit who had just gotten out of La Nueva and was about to board an armored car.
Ylanan said they went to Camacho’s rented house in one of the areas in Metro Cebu after the police received “very reliable information” that Camacho was seen drinking liquor with some members of the robbery group days prior to the robbery.
Camacho is reportedly Garcia’s neighbor in San Miguel.
The police were hoping to get information from Camacho that would lead to the arrest of the robbery group, Ylanan said.
He said they are still evaluating some of the information Camacho gave them during interrogation.
Ylanan said he plans to invite Camacho tomorrow for another round of questioning.
Camacho reportedly assured the police to cooperate in the investigation. (JST)
