Aviation Rd. to become four-way lane

TO SOLVE traffic congestion, the Lapu-Lapu City Government plans to widen a road that traver-ses five barangays.

City Attorney Vicente Joseph Lim said the Aviation Road from Barangay Pajac to Barangay Buaya has been the subject of many complaints because it only has two lanes.

He said it can no lon-ger accommodate the increased number of vehicles in the city.

Hassle-free fiesta

He said Mayor Arturo Radaza wants the road widening to start immediately and be more than 50 percent complete before the city’s annual fiesta in November.

“It has been a scenario nga grabe ang traffic sa central part sa Lapu-Lapu panahon sa fiesta. Ang mga sakyanan halos dili maka-irog tungod sa traffic, and we are going to correct the situation (Traffic is usually bad during fiesta time, especially at the central part of Lapu-Lapu),” he said.

Meanwhile, the long awaited drainage project in Barangay Basak has already been implemented, he said.

No basis

There is, though, a minor problem with affected lot owners demanding payment from the City.

Lim said the City disregarded their demands because their property was never taken away.

“Igo raman ta nag-butang ug drainage pagka-human gisemento nato ug balik ilang yuta (We merely placed drainage pipes under their property). Besides the law provides a 10-meter legal easement from the center island of a road,” he said. (AIV)
