Police shoot wanted man for resisting

POLICE shot a man wanted for grave threats and physical injuries cases after he resisted arrest Sunday afternoon.

Although he was wounded, Jason Fernandez still managed to elude arrest by sneaking away to a corn field in Sitio Casia, Barangay Lanao, Daanbantayan town.

At past 4 p.m. Sunday, police in the northern town in Cebu received a complaint about an armed person in the sitio. They later learned the man was Fernandez, one of those in the wanted persons list of the municipality.

Responding officers SPO1 Cesar Alburo, PO1 Edwin Dignos and PO1 Keith Castro immediately proceeded to the area bringing a warrant of arrest for Fernandez.

Escape

When they reached Sitio Casia, they urged Fernandez to surrender and informed him that they had a warrant of arrest.

Fernandez, instead, allegedly sprang up at them, carrying a gun.

According to a report submitted to the Cebu Provincial Police Office, SPO1 Alburo was forced to fire a warning shot.

Fernandez reportedly ignored it and continued running towards PO1 Dignos armed with the gun.

This prompted Dignos to fire another warning shot. But this failed to stop Fernandez. Dignos then shot Fernandez. Fernandez then leapt to a nearby cornfield. Police lost him in the chase.

Police believe Fernandez was wounded because they found traces of blood from where he stood. They are still trying to locate him, as they believe he did not go far, being wounded.

They are now checking all his known relatives and medical clinics in the area. (MEA)
