CV police officials tour Korean city

POLICE officials of Central Visayas visited their counterparts in the Chungnam Provincial Police Agency in Daejeon Metropolitan City, Republic of Korea recently.

The delegation was headed by Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Silverio D. Alarcio Jr. The group was composed of Supt. Drusillo C. Bolodo, Supt. Carmelo E. Valmoria, Supt. Augusto M. Marquez Jr., Supt. Patrocinio A. Commendador Jr., Supt. Edward F. Caranza, Supt. Melvin Ramon G. Buenafe, Supt. Anthony L. Obenza and PO1 Arieza P. Velasco.

The officers from Cebu met their counterparts in a formal ceremony at the modern headquarters of the Chungnam Provincial Police Agency with the commissioner, senior superintendent general Cho Yong-Yeon.

Also present at the ceremony were Deputy Commissioner Supt. Gen. Choi Koang-Hua, the chiefs of the different divisions and the chiefs of the police stations.

The Central Visayas delegation visited the historical and educational sites of Chungnam.

The group had a city tour and also went to the Korean Aerospace Research Institute, where they were able to see the tracking station of two of Korea’s Communication Satellites.

Human rights

The group also visited A-San Police Station, which was unique among the others because of its foreign human rights center, catering mostly to Filipino migrant workers who are married to Koreans. The center handles complaints regarding domestic and work-related problems of foreigners.

The Korean hosts also took the group to Cheonan and A-San Citizen Security Unity Center, a facility which monitors the two cities through CCTV cameras posted in every street corner.

Before the trip ended, PRO 7 hosted a dinner for their hosts at the Kyeryong Spatel, the hotel where the delegation was billeted.

Most of the officials had their first taste of Korean culture and food, like the kimchi and the traditional rice-wine Shoju.
