Wednesday, August 22, 2007 Guard faces questioning on ID
THE Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) will invite a guard from the Mandarin Security Agency whose identification card was found in a supermarket that was robbed of P2.7 million last Aug. 13.
CCPO Deputy Director Pablo Labra II, in an interview with reporters, said a concerned citizen, who sought the assistance of radioman and newspaper columnist Lloyd Suarez on how to get in touch with the police, turned over the ID card of one Jason Dumuran last Monday night.
Labra, however, said that they are still verifying if the person found the card on or before the heist happened past 11 a.m. at La Nueva Supermart at the corner of Magallanes and Burgos Sts. in downtown Cebu City.
Labra said he tasked Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Bureau Chief George Ylanan to invite Dumuran for questioning on why his card was found in the area.
“This is worth looking into. We would like to know if he was one of the back-up security guards for the (armored) van,” Labra said.
The hunt for the four members of the Bohol Robbery Group, who were identified as the perpetrators, and the former security guard of La Nueva who aided the group in the heist, is still going on.
Former security guard Danilo Flores, Casimero “Meloy” Garcia (the alleged leader of the group), Cresencio “Bruts” Reguya and two John Does were named respondents in the robbery with double frustrated homicide complaints the CCPO filed before the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office.
Labra earlier said they will file an amendment to the earlier complaints against the suspects following the death of Procoro Esguerra, one of the security guards who escorted Metrobank pick-up teller Grace Maglangit during the robbery.
Esguerra died last Sunday night, while his fellow security guard Medard Rama, who was also shot by the robbers, is still recuperating at the Cebu City Medical Center.
Labra said they will amend the case to robbery with homicide, for Esguerra’s death, within the week. (JST)
