Wednesday, August 22, 2007 Pacquiao’s MP-Warriors-GenSan, Davao’s Montaña back in MVBA
THE MP Warriors-GenSan will be back into the fold of the Mindanao-Visayas Basketball Association (MVBA) after taking a break for one conference.
The MP Warriors is the team owned by boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao.
Aside from the Warriors, the Montaña Pawnshop-Davao has also signified their entry to the league, according the MVBA founder and organizer Yayoy Alcoseba.
“I already talked about it with Manny (Pacquiao) and I’m happy to announce the return of Team Pacman in the MVBA. Also, Montaña Pawnshop of Davao will be joining the league,” Alcoseba announced.
With the MP Warriors’ re-entry and the inclusion of Montaña Pawnshop, there will now be nine teams that will vie to unseat the M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala in the season-ending conference.
The 2007 MVBA Second Conference will officially start on Sept. 16 at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.
The Warriors also now has a new coach, Cebuano but now Davao-based Perry Alicante.
The MP Warriors and Montaña Pawnshop will open up the hostilities as they are set to play on the opening day.
The Warriors will play against host team Mandaue-Cebu Landmaster in the main game at 6:30 p.m., while Montaña Jewels will battle Arthro Kontra Arthritis of businessman-sportsman Jonathan “Atan” L. Guardo at 4:30 p.m.
Defending champion M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala Jewelers will have their first assignment against Montaña at 5 p.m. on Sept. 18 at the Cebu Coliseum. In the other match of a featured double-header, Arthro will take on Pacman.
The other entry in the Visayas Division is West Negros College-Bacolod City of Tony Agustin, while Holcim Pryce Pharma-MisOr, Duterte Agilas-Davao Citty, and Golden Harvest-Valencia City complete the five-team cast in the Mindanao bracket. (RCM)
