Balamban VM ‘likely to be elected’ league head

THE Vice Mayors’ League Cebu Chapter will hold its elections this Friday.

Medellin Vice Mayor Michael Miranda yester-day said the league’s interim president, Balam-ban’s Ace Binghay, is likely to
be elected unopposed, being endorsed by Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.

Medellin is part of the fourth district and Miranda ran last May alongside Garcia’s foes, the Martinez family.

In a telephone interview yesterday, he said the newly-elected vice mayors had a meeting two weeks ago at the Casino Español in Cebu City. During the meeting, everyone agreed to have a tentative list of officers whom they will vote into office.

While the presidency of various leagues were fiercely contested in previous terms, this time no one is expected to run
against those endorsed by Garcia’s group, the One Cebu Party.

Last month, Dumanjug Mayor Cesar Baricuatro was elected president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines Cebu Chapter.

Baricuatro’s election was done without fuss, as mayors endorsed his name unanimously in a meeting.

Rama

Like Baricuatro’s assumption to the post, Binghay’s is reportedly expected to be as smooth sailing.

Miranda also disclosed that during their last meeting, Cebu City Vice Mayor Michael Rama campaigned before them, as Rama wants to have a third try for the national presidency.

Miranda said the vice mayors from the province did not make a commitment to Rama. There is the possibility that Mandaue City’s Carlo Fortuna will go for the national position, he added, and this still has to be discussed.

Fortuna is with the ruling One Cebu party. (JPM)
