SilkAir named among top 10 international airlines

SILKAIR has once again been rated one of the top ten airlines in the world by Travel + Leisure magazine in its World’s Best Awards 2007.

This is the third consecutive year that the airline has been ranked alongside the world’s top international airlines, with the distinctive honor of being the only regional carrier to make it to the coveted list.

SilkAir’s parent company, Singapore Airlines, retained the top spot among international airlines for an unprecedented 12th year, making it a double achievement for the group and for Singapore’s aviation sector.

Travel + Leisure’s awards are a barometer of global travel trends, with the World’s Best Awards based on responses from its readers reflecting their preferences, tastes and travel habits. Rankings were aggregated on an average of readers’ ratings in five areas: cabin comfort, food, in-flight service, customer service and value.

The US-based publication is one of the highest circulating travel magazines with a readership of close to one million.

“We are very encouraged”, said Chin Yau Seng, SilkAir’s chief executive.

“For a regional airline like ourselves to be ranked among long-haul players tells us that we have growing international appeal. The recognition from customers strengthens the collective efforts of our team to cement SilkAir’s standing as a leading regional airline with a truly international reach and outstanding service,” he added.

This award is not a first for SilkAir. It was voted ‘Best Regional Airline’ for the seventh time in 2006 by readers of two of Asia Pacific’s leading travel publications, TTG Asia and TTG China.
