Pacer arrests man for killing neighbor

A MAN accused of killing a neighbor in the southern town of Dalaguete, Cebu was taken into custody by agents of the Presidential Anti-Crime and Emergency Response (Pacer) last Saturday dawn.

Fabian Debuayan, 46, of Sitio Canbangyao, Poblacion, was arrested by virtue of an arrest warrant for murder past 3 a.m. on Plaridel St. near Carbon market in Cebu City.

He is accused of hacking to death 34-year-old Henry Cisneros last Feb. 15.

Cisneros was found the following day with multiple hack wounds in his body in a grassy area in Sitio Cabangyao. A bolo locally known as pinuti was found at the crime scene.

One Alberto Tampus pointed to Debuayan as the killer.

Debuayan, in an interview at the Guadalupe Police Station, said he didn’t do it. He, instead, accused Tampus of killing Cisneros. (Pacer has no detention cell and asked the police station to temporarily detain Debuayan.)

Card game

Debuayan said that on Feb. 15 past 11 p.m., he and two other friends were playing “tong-its,” a card game, when Tampus arrived and told him that his family had been looking for him, prompting him to go home.

Tampus allegedly went with him.

While they were walking, Tampus allegedly asked Debuayan to go with him to a nearby “cockhouse,” which he did.

When they reached a grassy area on the road, Tampus allegedly stopped and asked Debuayan if he could identify the person lying on the grass.

Debuayan said he saw the body of Cisneros bathed in blood.

Debuayan said Tampus allegedly asked him to own up to the crime, which he refused.

At this instance, Debuayan said Tampus pulled out a bolo and tried to hack him. He said he ran away before Tampus could hit him.

When asked why he left Dalaguete after the incident instead of reporting to police, he said he did not know what to do.

After the incident, Debuayan said he applied for a job in Minglanilla, serving as a driver of a multicab that delivers vegetables to a company in Lapu-Lapu City. (JST)
