Otic knocks veteran Ed

LOCAL boy Fernando Otic demolished veteran Edward Escriber with precise body punches for a 3rd round knockout at the 2:10 mark in the SGG Sports Promotions, “Karambola sa Isla: Garbo Sang Bantayan” boxing card held last Saturday at the Bantayan Multi-Purpose Center in Bantayan Island.

However, the undefeated Weng Haya (8-0, 4KOs) stole the thunder from the local fighter after a sensational TKO win over Ricky Sismundo (7-2, 1 KO) at the 1:54 mark of the 5th round.

Focus

Otic (8-2, 7KOs) was all business from the start, connecting jarring blows to the head but Escriber (18-22-4, 10KOs) just continued pushing towards the taller opponent.

But just as Otic started to connect some body punches in the second, the puzzle that was Escriber was completely solved.

Haya, on the other hand, a late replacement for Reman Salim, proved he is worth the second look

A nerve-wracking left overhand to the jaw made Sismundo fall on his back and after beating the mandatory count, Haya was again all over him, forcing referee Sev Necesario to stop the carnage.

Romeo Jakosalem of Davao City pulled the shortest win after scoring a knockout in just 34 seconds of the fight over Paul “Jafar” Geraldo.

A right straight landed on the jaw of Geraldo and the shorter fighter was sent crumbling to the red corner, where he failed to beat the count.

Rolito Nengasca was lucky enough to score a knockdown on the first round as he debuted with a hard-earned split decision win over Albert Villacampa after four rounds.

Jerome Bontog, on the other hand, won by unanimous decision over Rey Villar and Fabio Marfa scored the other unanimous decision win of the night over Roldan Malinao after eight rounds.

Ruling

Meanwhile, Bantayan Island amateurs dominated over their counterparts from the different parts of Cebu in the promotion.

Jupiter Ribo defeated Torre Sosas, Ryan Illustrisimo won over Jeson Mancio, Michael Otik defeated Jojimae Samon, Glenn Sonido defeated Marcelino Montemayor; and Joel Zaspa beat Pedro Sulondro of Tuburan. (RCM)
