IT firm official stresses role of industry in business growth

THE status of the information technology (IT) industry is vital to businesses today, a computer and IT firm official said.

This is because, in this era, IT is considered a business driver of a company, Toby Castillo, 3com Philippines country manager told reporters at the sidelines of the turnover ceremony at the Asian College of Technology (ACT) Cyber Tower yesterday.

Castillo is one of the guests during the turnover of 220 units of networking equipment to the ACT donated by the Gaisano Capital Group of Companies.

Castillo said there can be no growth in a corporation without the IT industry.

He said IT is very important in corporations today because it already “traversed into the communication side of business,” especially with the boom of electronic mails, chatting and the Voice over Internet protocol, among others.

Before, computers were used only for doing business reports, among other documents, but now they have become very important tools for communication, Castillo said.

Challenges

Though there has been a shortage of available bandwidth service providers in the country, yet, despite this challenge, Castillo said the Philippines is still catching up with the others, with the help of companies, like 3com, which has been able to penetrate the market since it started in 1996.

3com is a global provider of enterprise and small-business networking solutions.

It aims at providing customers worldwide with high-quality, low-cost networking infrastructure solutions that enable the convergence of applications and emerging technologies into the network, the company said in a statement. (TEP)
