Wednesday, August 29, 2007 Arthro sweeps Davao, 97-74
THE ARTHRO Kontra Arthritis-Cebu added another feather to its cap after clipping the Duterte Agilas-Davao, 97-74, beating in the knockout championship to win the 44th Araw ng Kitcharao Invitational Basketball Tournament title held in Kitcharao, Agusan del Norte.
The title was the sixth for the Jonathan Guardo owned Arthro since topping the Cebu City Charter Cup 2007 Mindanao Visayas Basketball Association (MVBA) Pre-Season Games last February at the Cebu Coliseum.
The team’s addition Joseph Omandam immediately made his presence felt, topscoring Arthro with 19 points, while pioneers Jerome Gadiane and Doroteo Almacin added 13 markers each.
It was Arthro’s double-trouble backcourt combination of Ronaldo Bucao and Alex Cainglet who were responsible for their champion outburst in the second half after a scary fight for the lead in the first 20 minutes of the game.
Trailing by two, 49-47, Arthro erupted with a 22-11 blitz in the third period and never looked back after erecting a 69-60 lead entering the final quarter.
In the final period, another devastating 28-14 burst totally blew the game wide open as the Cebu-based squad annexed the title.
The basketball tournament was part of the annual town fiesta of the municipality of Kitcharao, famous for its Lake Mainit Grand Festival. (RCM)
