With doors now shut, it’s strictly boxing

FREDDIE Roach got his wish—total privacy for Manny Pacquiao’s daily training at the RWS International gym in Punta Princesa.

Last Monday, Roach expressed disgust after seeing too many people watching Pacquiao’s sparring sessions with Mexican David Rodel and Raymundo Beltran Jr.

“All he wanted is for Manny to focus on his training. So we have to shut the doors and we won’t accept guests for the moment,” Salud told Sun.Star-Cebu yesterday.

Yesterday, Roach was totally elated when he saw nobody at the gym except for a few media persons and the hired helps.

“He was happy now that Manny had totally focused on his training. Nobody is now bothering him. He can move freely without any camera following him,” Salud added.

Media visitation is also curtailed.

“I believe Freddie won’t refuse media men to cover Manny’s practice but I have to coordinate it with him first, get his approval. He is in charge now, and it all depends on him who will he allow inside the gym while Manny is training,” he said.

According to Salud last Monday was all chaos and even the restrictions were ignored. It forced the celebrated American trainer to think of bringing the training camp back to his Wild Card gym in Los Angeles, California.

Today is another sparring day for Pacquiao, where he is scheduled to go four rounds each with Rodel and Beltran.

So far, Pacquiao has accomplished around 20 rounds of sparring out of a targeted 120 rounds.

Pacquiao worked out three hours a day at the gym, and spent another good two hours on his conditioning and road works.

“On September, the training load will be heavier. This time it’s still semi-heavy but Manny is now peaking and before they will leave for the US, Manny will be really 100 percent,” Salud said.

Team Pacquiao is scheduled to leave for the US on Sept. 22. He will stay for one week in Los Angeles before flying to Las Vegas for the final week going to the Oct. 6 (Oct. 7 RP time) rematch with Marco Antonio Barrera in Mandalay Bay Hotel and Resort Casino. (RCM)
