Aldeguer: Boom-Boom to fight before year ends

AFTER his embarrassing first round knockout loss to WBO super bantamweight champion Daniel Ponce de Leon, ALA boy Rey
“Boom-Boom” Bautista is set to get into the ring again before the year ends.

This is the news of noted Cebu boxing patron Antonio L. Aldeguer in an interview with Sun.Star Superbalita yesterday.

Aldeguer said they are still negotiating for Bautista’s fight, which will be possibly staged at the Araneta Coliseum this November or December.

However, Aldeguer clarified that saved for the date, the opponent, venue and who the promoter will be, are yet to be finalized.

“Definitely Boom-Boom will fight again before the year ends,” said Aldeguer.

Aldeguer said Viva Sports is interested to promote the next fight of Bautista, whose loss to de Leon ended his 23-fight winning streak.

Ring date

Aside from Viva Sports, Aldeguer also said Golden Boy Promotions, owned by Oscar dela Hoya, is also planning to promote Bautista’s next fight.

Though details of his next ring date are still to be ironed out, Bautista is eager to fight anew.

The 21-year-old boxer is currently taking a break from rigid training back in his home town in Candijay, Bohol.

“I’m taking it easy here but every morning, I still jog and I still practice so I am in good condition always,” Bautista told Superbalita.

“When I get back on the ring, I will show who Boom-Boom really is,” Bautista admitted that he has learned from his loss and these lessons will aid him in his next fight.

“I want to go back and practice in Cebu. I want to avenge my loss, and to prove that I can be a world champion,” said Bautista, who has a 23-1 record with 17 KOs. (ESL)
