DVRMES rules taekwondo contest

THE Don Vicente Rama Memorial Elementary School (DVRMES) copped the overall title of the Regional Interschool Taekwondo Championships last Sunday at the Elizabeth Mall.

The DVRMES taekwondo jins won four gold medals, seven silvers and 10 bronzes, to score a total of 59 points to take the crown.

The title is DVRMES’ second championship of the year having won the Regional All Women’s Tournament last May.

The team, coached by Mel Gabutin, has been training under Korean master Han Kyu Sang.

Leading DVRMES’ carnage are lady jins Kate Nacorda and Jeah Maglasang, who both dominated the advanced division of their respective classes.

Taking second place is St. Alphonso’s Catholic School of Lapu-Lapu City, whose jins also raked in four golds but only came up with two silvers and two bronzes.

On the other hand, Dalaguete Central School salvaged third place but came up with an impressive finish despite being the youngest team in the competition.

Dalaguete, which was only organized last summer, was at par with the top two teams as its jins also fished four gold medals.

The tournament attracted 180 players from 45 different schools all across the province. The tournament was spearheaded by managers Larry Elpa, Glenn Lava and Philippine Taekwondo Association regional head Tony del Prado. (MCB)
