Friday, August 31, 2007 Cebu market poses challenge for store
A company offering vegetarian food describes the Cebu market as “challenging.”
Edgino Chito Boga-yong II of Kuya Chito’s Takuyaki, a Mindanao-based company offering Japanese vegetable rolls, observed that while the firm’s products have achieved marketability in the cities of Iloilo, Butuan and Zamboanga, it is experiencing a slow start in Cebu.
Bogayong said while very few Cebuanos are keen about vegetarian dishes, many are also “very particular” about food.
The company is taking the local market slowly, he said, adding that the company cannot expect to capture the Cebuano market in less than a year.
“Nice feedback”
He said, though, that the company’s booth during the 8th Cebu Franchise Expo has “gained very nice feedback.”
Bogayong said the company is “not losing hope” and will prove to Cebuanos the quality of their products.
Despite the setback, Bogayong said the company is doing well and has 36 franchised outlets, four of which are in Cebu.
He said an outlet can have a daily gross income of as much as P10,000 and a net profit of about P90,000 per month.
Takuyaki is made of locally-sourced vegetables rolled in shrimp and beef crust. It is processed in Mindanao.
The rolls are cooked Japanese style with a reinvented “Pinoy-style taste,” said Bogayong. (TEP)
