Friday, August 31, 2007 Pacquiao nearing apex of training
NOW that he is in full focus on his training, Manny Pacquiao is nearing the apex of his preparation for his rematch with Marco Antonio Barrera on Oct. 6 (Oct. 7 RP time) at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Resort Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada in the US.
Pacquiao is now free to embark on hard training without fans watching his every move. The Filipino boxing hero has gotten his preparation to another level.
“Much as I wanted to give happiness to my fans, I would like to ask for your understanding because all I’ve wanted is for the victory and pride of our country,” Pacquiao said in an interview with Balitang Bisdak.
Yesterday, Pacquiao ran for another 35 minutes in the steep uphill road of Alta Vista Gold and Country Club road in Pardo, Cebu City.
His every move is being taped by an HBO crew, which is documenting the training of Pacquiao for a primer that will be aired a week before fight night.
ABS-CBN, Viva Sports TV and GMA-7 Balitang Bisdak crew are also present to document the preparation of the 28-year old ring hero, who has made Cebu City the center of attention in the boxing world.
HBO crew chief George Jankovic was all praises for Pacquiao, who showed no signs of sloppiness.
Pacquiao’s relatives in Cebu also greeted the super-featherweight superstar on his way to the RWS International gym. This time, however, nobody insisted in watching him during his workout.
RWS gym owner Rex “Wakee” Salud had imposed a very strict rule over entrance to the gym. The rule was strictly observed when American trainer Freddie Roach threatened to take the training back to the Wild Card Gym in the US.
Today, Pacquiao is scheduled to spar with two Filipino boxers, one of them Arnel Tinampay. (RCM)
