Danao hosts RP bikers

WHEN the Philippine mountain bike team visits Danao City this week, they will be greeted by the warmest welcome—a mountain bike competition in the city’s internationally-known race course this Sunday.

Danao City Sports Commission chairperson, Councilor Oscar “Boying” Rodriguez spearheads the event in time for the RP team’s visit.

The team is contemplating on having the training in Danao following an embarrassing finish in China, where local boy and RP
team reject Niño Surban overpowered them.

Tracks

The course has not been set yet, but the cross-country contest will be on the terrains of Danao City’s mountains. This area became popular during the 2005 mountain bike contest of Southeast Asian Games. Though Danao has a handful of other mountain bike courses, the sports complex has been made the venue for other competitions including scores of other Asian competitions.

The competition features races in the open, juniors for 18 years old and below, seniors for cyclists 19-29 years old, veterans for 30-39, masters A for 40-49, Masters B for 50 and above, ladies and executives.

Cash prizes are at stake for the competition with the top three racers in the open division pocketing P5,000, P3,000 and
P2,000 respectively.

Registration is pegged at P100 each participant. For those who want to join, one may sign up at the Danao City Sports Commission office. Call 200-1212 or 200-1818. (MCB)
