Body fished out off Punta Engaño still unidentified

A BOY, believed to be 12 years old, was fished out of the waters off Barangay Punta Engaño in Lapu-Lapu City by a group of fishermen yesterday morning.

There were no contusions or open wounds on the victim’s body, prompting authorities to believe that he had drowned while swimming alone or with some friends.

Residents in the area who viewed the body didn’t recognize him.

Homicide investigator PO3 Manolito Abellanosa said the boy didn’t have any clothes on and may have come from another barangay.

There were also no distinguishing marks that could lead to the victim’s identity.

Porferio Talingting was fishing 200 meters from the shore around 6 a.m. when he noticed a body floating on the water. He approached it and called for help from fellow fishermen when he found out it was a boy.

Small boat

Abellanosa said Talingting put the boy’s body into his small boat and brought it ashore.

The police headquarters was informed of the incident around 9 a.m. and they transferred the body to a funeral home in Mandaue City after asking nearby residents if they knew the victim.

Abellanosa said the boy had been dead for less than 24 hours because there was no sign of decomposition on any part of the body. (AIV)
