Police asset survives shooting

A POLICE informant survived an attack by men on a motorcycle on A. Soriano Ave. at the North Reclamation Area in Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City last Saturday evening.

He was working as a jeepney “dispatcher” when he was attacked.

Rizalde Esclibano, 27, of Villagonzalo II, Barangay Tejero was taken to Cebu City Medical Center and survived the gunshot wounds in his body, legs and left arm.

PO1 Edario Manatad, one of the responding Homicide Section investigators, in a mobile phone interview told Sun.Star Cebu that Esclibano’s vital organs were not hurt in the attack.

Manatad said retaliation is the angle the Homicide Section is considering because Esclibano has long been serving as asset and errand boy of the Mabolo Police Station.

He said Esclibano tagged the gunman as a brother of one of the several persons arrested for a drug-related offense through the information he had given to the police station.

Esclibano was reportedly looking for jeepney passengers past 8 p.m., Saturday, when one of the two men on the Yamaha motorcycle shot him thrice using a revolver. The two immediately fled the scene.

Manatad said the Homicide Section and the Mabolo Police Station are coordinating with each other in the filing of a complaint against the gunman and his cohort. (JST)
