Monday, September 10, 2007 Visitors banned in Pacquiao’s training
NO visitor—even those with passes—will be able to enter the RWS International Gym today as Manny Pacquiao intensifies his training two notches higher at the start of the final two weeks of his preparation for his Oct. 6 rematch with Marco Antonio Barrera.
Celebrated American trainer Freddie Roach will no longer allow any visitor or will no longer honor any visitor’s pass starting today to allow Pacquiao to concentrate hard on their strategy building.
Pacquiao’s load will be harder and his sparring sessions today will be longer as they hope to accomplish a total of 130 rounds before they will leave for Los Angeles on Sept. 22.
The Filipino ring icon, however, stated that he is already 90 percent conditioned and by the time they fold up their training camp he will be 100 percent ready.
Understanding
“I am already 90 percent in shape and I am continuing to do harder training,” Pacquiao wrote in Filipino in his column of a Manila-based tabloid and Philboxing.com.
Pacquiao also asked fans for understanding, saying he can no longer entertain visitors in his training. Visits at his hotel were already limited because they are all thinking of winning the match.
Roach has already announced that this fight is bigger than any of Pacquiao’s previous fights as it would mark his stature as the best super featherweight fighter of this era.
Pacquiao, meanwhile, had sealed a deal with network giant GMA-7 as its new “Kapuso” talent, when the latter made a side trip to Manila last Saturday afternoon. (RCM)
