Wednesday, September 12, 2007 Speak out: Sandiganbayan’s daunting task By Atty. James F. Lobedica 537 Lower Pakigne, Minglanilla, Cebu
FORMER President Joseph “Erap” Estrada’s plunder case is now in the hands of the Sandiganbayan. The Filipino people wait with bated breath its verdict, which will be handed down today.
The Sandiganbayan court faces a daunting task in resolving the case. If Erap is acquitted the people will say that he is innocent and that the impeachment trial leading to his downfall from power in 2001 was a sham and a mockery of our justice system only fueled by political interests, machinations and maneuvers by some sectors of our society.
On the other hand, if he is found guilty, his hordes of political supporters and sympathizers will see the with anger and vindictiveness against the Sandiganbayan suspecting that Malacañang is the mastermind of all these things unfolding before the eyes of our nation.
