MLKP rules Digos tournament

THE M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala Jewelers scored a tough win over the Holcim Pryce Pharma-Misamis Oriental as the Cebu City-based squad needed an extension to score a thrilling 87-83 win in the sudden-death championship in the 2007 Araw Ng Digos Invitational Basketball tournament last Sunday in Digos City, Davao del Sur.

Flashy guard Woodrow Enriquez, center Marlon Basco and defensive specialist Gerry Cavan scored the crucial points to win the title.

The Jewelers were trailing most of the way after MisOr lead 17-22 at the end of the first period.

However, MLKP was able to sneak from behind to even the score at 75-all at the end of the regulation period.

Enriquez then scored five straight points, while Basco and Cavan each sank a triple each to complete the come-from-behind win of the Jewelers.

Basco topped the Jewelers with 17 points, bull- strong Leo Bat-og added 16 and Enriquez and Cavan knocked 10 markers each.

Ex-pro Lowell Briones topped Holcim Pryce with 18, while point guard Ramil Tagupa finished with 17.
