Now, his right rocks, too

LONGER hours, more sparring sessions marked yesterday’s regimen for Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao at the RWS International Gym.

Pacquiao has improved his right straight and right hook over the weeks and his sparring partners were now baffled on what hand to watch.

Amid added loads, Pacquiao still did additional minutes on his training aside from sparring for 10 rounds yesterday.

“That is Manny. When he trains, he really trains hard. If you say 10 minutes he’ll make it 12. That’s him. He doesn’t stop until he feels contented,” said his business partner and gym owner Rex “Wakee” Salud.

After sparring four rounds with Aaron Melgarejo and three rounds each with Raymundo Beltran Jr. and Arnel Tinampay, Pacquiao did extra two minutes with the skipping ropes, which was only for 10.

Quota

The total sparring sessions of Manny since he started training is now 70 rounds and their target 130 rounds is very doable with still 10 days left before they pack their bags and leave for the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, California.

Today is another scheduled “killer run” for Pacquiao, but if the weather doesn’t cooperate, he will have to do with the treadmill at the Waterfront Hotel Cebu City, just like what he had done yesterday, when he had to cancel his run at the IT Park because of the rain.

With the recent conditioning of his ward, Roach is now confident that Pacquiao will score another knockout over Marco Antonio Barrera on Oct. 6 (Oct. 7, RP time) in Mandalay Bay Hotel and Resort Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Roach earlier said that Pacquiao could duplicate his Nov. 2003 TKO win at the 11th round over Barrera in San Antonio, Texas.

Focus

But with Pacquiao’s impressive attitude towards his training, the celebrated American and 2006 BWAA Trainer of the Year, has all the reason to believe that the Filipino power puncher could score another knockout win over Barrera.

Pacquiao, a southpaw, had developed his right to be equally dangerous as his left by Roach over the years.

“Manny is a lot quicker now and his hand speed has improved much, his right hand is now equally dangerous as his left. And his confidence is very high,” Salud added. (RCM)
