Thursday, September 13, 2007 Alarcio asks officials to treat assignment of relieved Cebu City cops as challenge
PROVINCIAL directors who will be getting some of the police officers from Cebu City linked to questionable activities should see this as a “challenge” to their management skills, said Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Silverio Alarcio Jr.
By sending them far from their hometowns, Alarcio hopes erring policemen are reminded of their attitude problems.
He said the Bohol and Cebu Provincial Police Offices are also in need of additional personnel.
Those who need close supervision should be assigned in areas where the provincial director can easily monitor them and send the more trusted officers to areas that require little or no supervision, Alarcio said.
“I’ll be happy to receive them. I see it as an opportunity to correct them,” he said.
Alarcio believes erring police officers need a time away from their previous assignments to “think over” what they have done.
He also said they needed to add “fresh blood” to the force of the Cebu City Police Office with new graduates from the Regional Training School.
The 20 police officers were recommended by Cebu City Police Office Director Patrocinio Comendador to be relieved, with most of them having derogatory records and deemed inefficient in their functions.
For his part, Cebu Provincial Police Chief Carmelo Valmoria said he will be assigning the relieved policemen to different units in the province.
“We welcome them. But while I am the acting provincial director of the Cebu Provincial Police Office, they have to tow the line. Ours is to serve and protect the public,” he told reporters.
Valmoria said he will have a talk with them before giving them assignments.
“This is not a warning. This is always my message to the officers and personnel of the CPPO,” he added. (MEA)
