Basic gun safety seminar among policemen sought

CEBU City Police Office Director Patrocinio Co-mendador wants to reintroduce the basic gun safety seminar in the firearms training program of the CCPO, following the accidental firing at the Palace of Justice.

And since the accidental firing of PO2 Jonas Tajanlangit was “clearly an accident” Comendador said he did not want to “waste paper.”

“From the facts of the case, we can see right away that it was accidental,” he told reporters yesterday.

Going back to basics

Comendador said that with at least four accidental firings since his term began, he wants to focus on basic gun handling,
as the current training is designed for those who already know how to use the gun properly.

All those involved in the accidental firings will be made to go through a three-day gun safety seminar first.

He said there was a need to go back to the basics and place emphasis on gun safety.

Recently, they did not even do dry firing anymore.

Relieved

Tajanlangit, in a separate interview, told reporters that he is thankful that no one was hurt.

He submitted his .45 pistol for repair.

Tajanlangit, an operative of the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Bureau, had come from a court hearing.

He was about to leave the building and had just retrieved his firearm from the front door guard, as he had deposited it there earlier before he entered the building.

Tajanlangit said he took responsibility for what happened and even told the guard to record what happened in the logbook.

He said he was willing to face an investigation if there was any, though he has yet to receive notice from his superiors if he was required to submit an explanation. (MEA)
