Lower tax lures events to CICC
MANDAUE City’s amusement tax, which is lower than that of Cebu City, is luring concert organizers to the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC).
Marissa Nallana, president of the Philippine Association of Congress/Exhibition Organizers and Suppliers Inc., said in a meeting of the management board of the CICC that concert organizers are now choosing the CICC over a hotel in Cebu City, the previous venue of most concerts.
This is because Mandaue City imposes only a six-percent amusement tax while that of Cebu City is 30 percent.
Aside from the amusement tax, the CICC is also located at the reclamation area, which has less traffic and more parking area than the hotel in Cebu City.
However, the plenary hall of the CICC will have to be made bigger to attract more international events.
Gov. Gwen Garcia said she will do just this to bring in more events, and instructed the Provincial Engineering Office to start the legwork for the CICC’s reconfiguration.
The Capitol already has a ready budget for the improvement of the CICC. Last Aug. 29, the Provincial Board approved an allocation of P100 million for the CICC’s improvement.
For July and August alone, the CICC received 11,729 visitors both foreign and local. (JPM)
