513 golds still at stake in Milo events

ONE hundred and four gold medals taken, 513 still at stake.

The closing weekend of the 12th Milo Little Olympics unfolds today in different venues in Cebu City.

In the first weekend, 55 golds were won in the secondary division with the defending champion taking the bulk, while 49 were given out in the elementary division.

Only golds in swimming, taekwondo and some in athletics, badminton and table tennis were tallied last weekend. The rest of the track and field contests will wrap up today as well as that of other events. Also opening today will be the gymnastics competition, which, according to organizer Ricky Ballesteros, can still change over all standings.

“The rankings will be disturbed because of a medal-rich gymnastics that stakes 15 golds in high school and 15 in the
elementary,” Ballesteros said.

UC is currently on track of defending its turf in the secondary contest. It already has 26 gold medals, more than half of their 40 golds last year.

Ballesteros said that the battle for the standings will now be for the second and third places of the secondary division and the elementary rankings.

“Abellana National School has been surprising this year. They may not be able to catch up with UC, but things are looking good for them to make it in the top five. In case this happens, it will be their best finish in Milo,” Ballesteros said.

Abellana, only tenth last year, is currently second and is expected to haul more medals in track and field, sepak takraw, football, gymnastics and chess.

In the elementary division, Silliman University just might be ending its dominance today.

“Cebu City Central School is expected to take the leadership today as they are expected to compete in events they are strong in like athletics,” Ballesteros said. (MCB)
