THE Computer Science Department scored a double win in claiming the men’s and women’s titles in the chess tournament during the Cebu Institute of Technology Intramurals held recently at the school’s campus.

Although the men’s team scored the same total of 15 points with the College of Engineering but they collared the title with the “win over the other rule” versus the Engineering team.

The men’s team composed of Jae Marv Parba, Lawrence Codaste, Vencient Bantilan and John Joven Bayutas defeated the College of Education in the last round, 3.5 points to .5 points, to snatch the victory.

The College of Engineering got second place while the College of Commerce landed in third spot with 11 points. The Engineering team was composed of Filrem Lor, Junilo Urgel, Henin Mingoy and Antonio Manuel Borces. The Commerce team was composed of Rene John Franco, Vicbert Angob, Niño Anthony Austria and Adonis Anthony Agudo.

Women’s

In the women’s division, the computer science team composed of Rima Airah Tubalado, Chyrrel Ybañez, Carlyn Hojilla and Trizie Sante tallied 17 points to win the crown. The team blanked the College of Education, 4-0, in the last round.

The College of Nursing landed in second place with 16.5 points while the College of Engineering got third with 8 points.

The Nursing team was composed of Kareen Gabon, Jedalyn Lapitan, Alina Ebdani, and Maricel Verano while the Engineering team was made up of Jerlaine Portuito, Charmaine Yrañela, Ivan Paler and Gregglou Estreros.

The chess tourney used the single round robin format with a time control of one hour. (JGC)
