Labangon officials organize fun run

ORGANIZERS expect at least a thousand runners to join the 1st Barangay Labangon SK Fun Run on Sept. 30.

The run is the first of its scale to be organized by a Cebu City barangay.

Labangon officials, led by Barangay Chief Felix Abella and SK chairman Aubrey Copino, launched the event yesterday with a press conference at the barangay hall.

“I have decided to stage this project because more (residents) can participate than in a basketball tournament and it costs is just the same. We will be continuing this program annually,” said Abella.

Race director Joe Deresas said this race is the biggest among races organized by any barangay.

Abella expects to attract at least one thousand runners.

Healthy lifestyle

“This is one way that we can unite the sitios of barangay Labangon, besides we can also promote healthy lifestyle among our residents,” said Copino.

Unlike most races, this competition has a punishing route that will start and finish at the Labanong Barangay Hall going to Banawa roads – which features treacherous uphills and downhills, going down to V. Rama Avenue then back to Katipunan road for the finish line.

The race is divided into five divisions – the Men’s Open 5-K, the Women’s Open 5-K, the Kiddies (12-years old and below) 3K for Boys and Girls division and the Executive Division.

Prizes

More than P50,000 worth of prizes are at stake. The winners of the Open division will receive P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000 for the top three finishers plus trophies for each category while fourth placers to 10th placers will also receive cash and medals.

Top three finishers in the 3K runs will receive P1,000, P700 and P500 plus trophies while the fourth to the 10th placers will also receive cash rewards and medals. The Executive Division’s top three will receive trophies while the fourth to the 20th place will get medals.

Registration will start today at the Labangon Baranggay Hall and at the Cebu City Sports Complex. Registration fee for 5K runners is P50 and for 3K runners, it’s P30. The amount is inclusive of a souvenir race t-shirt and snacks.

The race is also sponsored by Omega Pain Killer, Eruf and Citom. (RCM)
