Cherish School marks 21st yr.
CEBU Cherish School Inc. will be celebrating its 21st Foundation Day inside the school gymnasium tomorrow.
The school, located on J. Llorente corner Waling-waling Sts., Capitol Site, Cebu City.
It was founded by a group of outstanding Chinese businessmen in 1915.
The school expanded with the trust and confidence of the Filipino-Chinese community.
Classes for high school began in 1924.
In 1939, it merged with the Sun-Yat-Sen High School and was renamed Cebu Chinese Overseas High School.
It continued operating until World War II.
The school reopened in 1986 and was renamed Cebu Cherish Kindergarten School.
The pre-school classes started with only 50 pupils both in English and Chinese.
There were only four faculty members, with two others serving as the administrative staff—Mr. Siao, known as Mr. Ngo Tay and Ms. Sio Eng.
Goal
The school wanted to reach the goal of strengthening the bond between the Chinese and the Filipinos.
One of its features was a mini zoo.
Go Sing King was the first president to run the school. He was replaced by Segundino Go.
Segundino was followed by James Go, the present director/administrator of the school.
The schools board officers are Lim Liu, Carlos Go, Simon Chuahe and Jaime Go.
In 1990, the elementary department was established and the school was later renamed Cebu Cherish School.
Nenita Samson, the school’s first principal, retired last June 30 after 20 years of service. (Rey-Anne Marie Ong/ Veronica Chiongbian)
