Cebu returns with medals

JUNIOR Cebuano jins were able to come home with decent finishes in two different competitions in Manila over the weekend.

Cebuanos took part in the National Interschool Championships at the Rizal Memorial Sports Center last Sunday and the Samsung Best of the Best National Taekwondo Championships last Saturday.

Cebu sent a lean team, but did not return empty-handed.

Karla Plantar saved the Cebuanos from a complete medal shutout in the Samsung competition held in Glorietta as she won the team’s lone medal in her division.

Plantar settled for the bronze in the 120-cm.-and-below class of the children’s division.

Meanwhile, Jenessa Vergara pulled off the best finish for the Cebuanos winning a silver in the interschool contest.

Vergara of University of the Visayas-Pardo fished a silver in the junior women’s lightweight division. Siblings John Mark and Cathy Bas took home one bronze medals each.

John Mark, who won a gold medal for Don Bosco College in the Milo Little Olympics, finished third in the men’s featherweight division, while Cathy won the bronze in the Senior women’s finweight class.

These jins won the right to represent Cebu in both contests after topping the qualifying competitions held here recently. (MCB)
