Friday, September 21, 2007 DTI sets aside funds for video on Cebu Otop
THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Cebu Provincial Office will invest P150,000 to produce a video that will promote products and service of local government units under the One Town, One Product (Otop) program.
“The production of a video presentation that profiles the products of the 12 identified local government units (LGU) would capture, in very visual terms, the success of the industries made possible” by the government’s intervention, DTI said in a statement.
Featured LGUs
The LGUs that will be featured are: Alcoy for their dolomite; Alegria for bamboo; Argao for torta; Asturias for wooden beads; Bantayan for boneless danggit; Boljoon for ceramics; Carcar for footwear; Carmen for sinamay; Dumanjug for handicraft; Lapu-Lapu City for guitars; Ronda for humba; and Talisay City for lechon.
DTI said the video production will help improve the image of selected industries and convince local government units that producing products that compete against each other would be counter-productive.
DTI program management division chief Elias Tecson told Sun.Star Cebu in an interview that the video presentation would be played at the airport waiting lounge and other tourism areas.
Otop, a priority program of the Arroyo administration, seeks to promote entrepreneurship and job creation.
Crucial
DTI said sustaining the interest of stakeholders is crucial to the long term success of the Otop program, which aims to eliminate unhealthy competition among local government units that vie in the promotion of similar products.
It encourages local government units to focus on the promotion of a single specialty product or service, and in doing so, conserve government resources.
The Otop has been creating awareness not only among the local government units as lead implementing bodies, but also among partner agencies and industry players, the DTI statement said. (TEP)
