Friday, September 21, 2007 Cokaliong meets ex-pros in 3-point contest
BASKETBALL enthusiast Chester Cokaliong will finally get his place among the stars when he got the opportunity to compete against Cebu’s former collegiate stalwarts in a side event of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. All-Star weekend.
Cokaliong, a businessman who has a passion for basketball and has made a name as a three-point shootout king in various competitions here in Cebu, will join former collegiate stars in a 3-point contest.
All the others competing in this side event used to play for Cesafi-member schools and some had their shots as pros in the Philippine Basketball Association.
Prowess
Cesafi commissioner Felix Tiukinhoy said that Cokaliong was invited to play because he has become renowned for his three-point prowess.
“He is recognized as Cebu’s topnotch three-point shootout king. And many want to see him showcase his talents,” said Tiukinhoy.
Cokaliong has 15 three-point shootout titles tucked under his belt and has 12 other individual titles. Among his latest achievements was a 3-point crown in the just concluded PAL Intersports hosted in Cebu.
Tiukinhoy also said that featuring Cokaliong in the side event of the All-Star weekend attracted more people and basketball fanatics who expressed their intentions join and get a chance to compete with him.
“We had to say no to them, unfortunately,” said Tiukinhoy.
Tapped to play against Cokaliong are Elmer “Boy” Cabahug, Al Solis. Rhoel Gomez, Rudy Enterina, Reggie Licanda, Feliz Duhig, Monyot Singsion and Jun Cabanca.
The All-Stars will be held this Sunday at the Cebu Coliseum.
The three-point shootout is a one minute and 30-second contest with the top five scorers advancing to the championship. (MCB)
