Speak out: Personal influence of teachers
By Marilou A. Godinez
Bogo Central School II
Bogo City

THE greatest insurance against poverty and security for a nation is quality education. Hence, it is basic for financial and economic prosperity and essential to everyone’s very existence. Superior students are the results of efficient and effective teachers. If education is the transfer of human’s accumulated knowledge through the years, then, it the teacher‘s responsibility to transmit skills well without sacrificing quality.

The success of any program depends on the teacher, and of course, the work of the teacher to a large extent depends on his status and training. Teachers are the most influential factor in school. Modern pedagogy recognizes more clearly than ever that in the learning situations, the personal influence of the teacher is more significant than subject matter alone.

He/she should bear in mind that within his/her procession, he/she will be entering into many kinds of relationship with people-pupils, colleagues, supervisors and parents. His attitudes towards his competencies as a person will make a difference in the way in which he/she approaches upon his previous experiences with his/her co-teachers, and the satisfaction he/she have found in his/her relationship with people.

The relatively low professional status of many teachers in our schools is accounted for by the fact that the requirements for admission to the professional and the remuneration have been low.

However, great improvements have been made in recent years, with the improvements in personal qualification and in ethical standards.
