Limpag: Nokia launches new smartphone

BUSINESS PHONE. Phone giant Nokia introduced last week its latest unit in the already formidable Eseries line, the Nokia E51. For a smartphone or business device, the Nokia E51 looks slim and stylish (see photo). The device offers mobile telephony including office phone functionality through integration with corporate phone networks or PBX.

The Nokia E51 comes with a home screen that includes user-selected icons to the most used applications. It has one-touch keys that provide access to key functionalities including e-mail, contacts, calendar and the home screen.

The E51 also comes with setup wizards to help users configure e-mail accounts, Internet calling, and access local wireless area networks. The Nokia E51 is also capable of being integrated with business e-mail solutions, including Nokia Intellisync Wireless E-mail and Mail for Exchange to communicate with Microsoft Exchange Server, and consumer e-mails.

YOU’VE GOT MAIL. The phone, according to a Nokia press statement, also offers “streamlined email reading experience with easy access to attachments.” It also has a dedicated email key on the front cover. What’s cool about the phone is that it comes with an indicator light to tell you of new mails. It also has a preview window for quickly checking mails on the home screen. “With the new Nokia E51 device, we are responding to this need with a business smartphone that combines the latest advances in business mobility and a classic, stainless steel design, at a price that makes it perfect for company-wide deployments,” Antti Vasara, Mobile Devices Unit senior vice president said in a company statement.

PERSONAL USE. The phone, according to the company, “is also ideal for any user wishing to leverage broadband connections to access mobile Internet telephony from homes and hotspots.” The Nokia E51, as with other phones in its line, can use Gizmo, a Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) application.

Gizmo not only allows you to make inexpensive calls but also chat and talk with friends who are also online and using the application. Gizmo can be downloaded in the Nokia Download! application that comes with the phone.

The E51 also comes with an FM radio and a digital media player. It has a 2-megapixel camera. It also comes with the Nokia browser, which makes it work with Microsoft’s Windows Live services, including Hotmail, Messenger and Spaces. The Nokia E51, according to company officials, will be available later this year.
