Tabotabo to join US tennis event; Siso to compete in ATF 14-Under

VINCE Mark Tabotabo has been joining tournaments left and right to prepare for two international competitions in the coming months.

Last Sunday, the Manila-based nine-year-old won his 14th title of the year when he topped the Olivarez Age Group Competition in Parañaque City, where he ousted for the fourth time, Eric Olivarez, 6-4, 7-5.

The biggest competition Tabotabo is gearing up for is the Little Mo National tournament in Austin, Texas, USA come December at the Austin Tennis Academy.

Competing with Tabotabo is Olivarez, where they will take on the other qualifiers from the different sections of Texas. The two will be accompanied by coaches Prospero Ruellan and Titus Tabotabo.

The Little Mo Nationals is the only tournament for boys and girls 8, 9, 10, and 11- Under and is the culmination of the year-long Road to the Little Mo Nationals, which holds a series of sectional competitions.

This competition is a well-known tennis event for young netters. America’s top player Andy Roddick even played in this competition in his formative years, where he went on to win the 10-Under title.

The Little Mo is staged by the Maureen Connolly Brinker Tennis Foundation in memory of tennis champion Maureen Connolly, known as Little Mo.

Little Mo was the first woman to win the Grand Slam in 1953 when she was only 18.

Before the Little Mo, Tabotabo will compete in Malaysia this November, but is still hoping to hurdle through the qualifying round in Oct. 6 and 7. He will be joined by other Cebuanos Jacob Lagman in the Boys 12, Bernardine and Sally Mae Siso in the Boys and Girls 14 and Milo Little Olympics Most Outstanding Athlete Crisianne Issa Kintanar.

The Sisos, on the other hand, are also going to compete in an international competition, the Asian Tennis Federation 14 Under division on October 8-13 at the Rizal Memorial tennis courts. (MCB)
